It's completely disengaged when welding. So your problem is carburetor or linkage. There is a thin spring connected to the linkage and it rots away or breaks. If you have two 6 volt coils, wire them in series. The 12 volt supply to the positive of the first coil. The negative of the first coil to the positive of the second coil.
