I did have to replace the front sight when I mounted a peep sight on my Marlin 336. The type of front sight you use with a peep is a personal thing. The shooters at the Lever Silhouette matches use a wide variety of front sights. I use a thinned front blade so I can see more of the target. With practice you can learn how much Kentucky elevation to use at extended ranges.
