At least it's worth a try: remove every other device from your router (wired and wireless) and move the Wii U a little farther away. Now, I stopped playing it for awhile when I went home from the summer (I am a uni student). Unbeknownst to me, I left my Mario Maker disc in the Wii U. Recently I started playing again, and found this out. Then, I tried to start up the Wii U, and it worked!Luckily, although I bought a Wii U January 2013, I resold it and got a different like new one that came in a box that included Mario Kart 8, so I think that was a new enough model to be safe. Don't remember why I traded the original out for the new one though, I think I wanted a refreshed Gamepad and decided to swap the console as well.
