Front differential leak
Apr 18, 2024 · I have never had leaks around the differential covers when changing the diff fluid on my 2005 LJ. I feel like I do it by the book, razor blade & wire brush off the old RTV, then bead new RTV around the pan n leave for 24 hours before refilling. Anyways, Two weeks ago I changed the front inner axle seals.No 4WD is almost certainly NOT related to the differential leak at the left CV axle. First guess would be the axle disconnect between the oil pan and the right-side CV axle. But it could also be a failed transfer case. I've had both on my '03, at different times. Heck, it could be a failed wire or fuse--simple and inexpensive.In the meantime, took off the skid plate underneath the oil pan, hit the plastic grey seal behind the diff with a good amount of brake cleaner. I know hope is not a course of action, but HOPEFULLY the leak was caused by some dirt trapped between the seal and the metal surface. View attachment 153068. View attachment 153069.

I think this is the video many are referring to except that the issue with the Duramax is usually not just the seal but also worn bearings on the front diff that allows even a new seal to leak. If you can see visible side-side or up-down motion of the CV shaft then likely you have a bearing issue ...
